# Privacy Policy

Updated 2026-11-01

Umarelli has no accounts, no ads and no cookies. This page covers the little it does collect and who else sees your requests. Questions: privacy@umarelli.org

## What we collect

- Anonymous usage analytics through PostHog: the pages you view, what you click, errors, page speed, and your browser and device type. Some visits are recorded as session replays so we can find bugs; anything typed into a field, including the search box, is masked.
- Nothing links one visit to the next. Analytics live only in the page’s memory, so no cookie or stored identifier follows you, and browsers that send Do Not Track aren’t tracked at all.
- PostHog gets a shortened IP address with the last part removed, which is enough for a rough location and no more.
- Your theme and recent address searches are saved in your browser’s local storage, on your device only. Clearing the site’s data removes them.

## Who else sees your requests

- Cloudflare hosts the site. It handles each request, including your IP address, to serve and protect the site, and keeps request logs for a short time.
- Mapbox draws the maps and looks up Jersey City addresses, so it receives your IP address and the area or address you look up. In New York, address search uses NYC Planning’s GeoSearch service, which receives what you type.
- PostHog stores the analytics above in the United States.
- News photos load directly from the publication that ran them.

## Claude and ChatGPT

- When you use Umarelli inside an AI app, the app sends us the address or neighborhood you asked about and we send back public records. We don’t receive your conversation or who you are; the AI company’s own privacy policy covers the rest.

## Public records

- Building pages show public government records. Umarelli doesn’t list owner names, labels people who file permits for their own homes as “a private applicant”, and never stores Jersey City permit contacts.
- Sale prices come from state and city deed records; Umarelli never reads the buyer and seller names in them.
- Documents we preview, such as board application files and permits, are the government’s own copies and can include the names of owners, applicants or architects as filed.
- To ask about something shown about you, email privacy@umarelli.org.

## What we don’t do

- No accounts, no advertising, no tracking across other sites, and no selling or sharing data for marketing.
- If you email us, we keep the message to reply and to fix the record, and use it for nothing else.

## Changes

- If this changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
